sadly, i didn't take very many pictures on thanksgiving this year
probably due to the cooking, cooking, cooking all day long
as well as the germs running rampant in our house
so here we rely upon the pics of the iphone to record our holiday
nevertheless, we have much for which we are grateful
the boys told me everything they feel grateful for so i could write them on leaves to hang on our thanksgiving tree. naturally all the superheros were listed. as well as robots, cereal and cookies. i had to remind them that we're also grateful for family, friends, the gospel and jesus.
luckily they agreed with me.
and don't worry, atticus would never dream of getting dressed for the ocassion
our little tree, before and after being grateful
perhaps the largest spectacle of the day was the pre-cooked turkey
the boys were real grossed out
and i kind of was too
we got our turkey for free after spending $100 are the grocery store, so of course i got the biggest sucker i could find. twenty lbs! that's a lot of leftovers. plus he was too huge for my roasting oven so i had to smash him down with the lid and ignore the fact that his breast wasn't all toasty brown like it's supposed to be since it was smashed against the lid. but hey, i've never claimed to be any kind of betty crocker so it worked for me.
this little turkey ran around all day wearing his turkey headdress
it wasn't until later that i realized his preschool teacher
had written on the feathers the things atticus felt grateful for
1. my lego batman
2. my mom
3. my dad
4. my brother and sister
lego batman trumped us all
but i came in second, so that's pretty good
we had a guest for dinner, a friend from church whose family is too far to come for a short holiday
i started pulling out my matching plates and then got real bored
so i pulled out all my mismatching plates instead
and it was a lot more fun
hmm, apparently that's all the iphone got of thanksgiving day
but i am indeed grateful for my precious little family, they bring me more joy then i could ever have imagined
all of our extended families also - parents, grandparents, sibling, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins
we are so blessed to be part of these incredible families and live our lives alongside these people
laughing and crying with them
i'm so deeply grateful for the love of our savior Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father
they carry me through the emptiest moments of my life and make those moments meaningful
and so grateful for our home and darek's job - i do not take these things for granted
as well as our healthy bodies and minds and the freedoms of our great country
we're especially appreciative of health this week since we've all been sick
but luckily the sickies make this little lady so cuddly it makes it worth it
she's had a big week
first she got all sick and feverish and sad
and then a teeny tiny tooth popped thru!
her FIRST one
then she got all sick and feverish and sad again
and then the teeny tiny tooth DISAPPEARED!!!
what?! all that work for nothing?
and then on thanksgiving day she went down for her nap toothless
and woke up toothful!!! the teeny tiny tooth broke through again, all the way this time!
and now she'll turn one next week, with one single tiny tooth in her mini head
she skipped eating for three days will dealing with fever and teeth coming and going at random
but then i finally thought to make popsicles from green smoothies and we were in business
nutrition and teething relief in one
and to be honest, even when she's trying to pop teeth out of her gums she is generally and happy little soul
how did we get so lucky?
she's also been starting to stand more and more by herself without holding onto anything
and even inching her little feeties forward a couple inches once or twice
which may even count as her first steps!
it's been a big week in her little life
so here we have beck wearing last year's halloween costume
as he greatly prefers it to the many superhero costumes in our playroom that would better fit his little two and half year old self
so then he wiped out in the a huge mud puddle at the park
which resulted in a very sad attempt to clean up in the tiny sink of the park restrooms
which ultimately resulted in beck playing at the park in nothing but his skivvies
therefore we are grateful for the beautiful vegas weather
that allows scantily clad superheros to run freely about
cute little muddy face
we went to town square yesterday, not so much to participate in black friday shopping as to people watch other people participating in black friday shopping. it was chaos. i lucked out and played the "my baby has to eat and i can't wait in this two hour long line" card and got atticus' birthday clothes put on hold at old navy then went back last night with zero lines! it was the most successful black friday moment of my mothering career.
in the meantime the boys checked out the enormous tree
and tried to steal the enormous ornaments
beck was quite dismayed to discover that what he believed to be delicious, edible strawberries, free for the picking
were actually just plastic, inedible christmas tree lights
alrighty, hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving
thank you all for being a blessing in our lives!!
