eight weeks old

Photobucket

the picture below floated about instagram and facebook for a few days
so you've maybe already seen it

but if not - it's worth a good look
no, that's not photoshop
it's spit up

lots of it
Photobucket

the happy girl is smiling and chatty it up these days
she has one little coo that kind of gurgles in the back of the throat and sounds like a "meow"
very fitting for this little cat woman

....in love...

Photobucket

peeping over dad's shoulder checking me out
she stays up with us in the evenings watching shows after her big brothers go to bed
she usually just snoozes in our arms then goes to bed when we do
it's good snuggle time, especially for dad since he misses her all day

Photobucket

this little chicky likes to roll from her tummy to her back during tummy time
and has even rolled to her side from her back a couple times

she's a champion sleeper, often taking at least a 3 hour nap in the afternoons (sometimes 4-5 hours!)
and last night slept her longest stretch until 6 am!! woo hoo!

the boys still love love love her
they snuggle her and tickle her and "hi baby!" her each chance they get
beck tries to pick her up or drag her out of her bouncy seat also each chance he gets
he also likes to "hold" (read: mangle) her hand in the car, as their carseats are side by side
oh yeah, and rest his foot on her face

they always give her fuzzy little head a sweet love pat when they say hi
sometimes beck gets a little overzealous and his soft love pat turns into a giddy head smash
that's the time to intervene

they also think it's real funny to get right in her face and growl/spit "HI BABY!"
also the time to intervene

overall things are great. we have good days and bad days but are surviving all of the above.
the toddler meltdowns are slowing down as well which is a relief.
but the biggest relief of all? i'm headed on my annual girls trip this weekend!

kennedy's blessing weekend

Photobucket

to start off - this happened a month ago, on new year's day
but as we all know, the blog has been out of commission of late. or rather, i have.
secondly - just a warning, i've procrastinated this post b/c there are a million pictures.
so let us rewind...

~baby blessings~
it is the custom in the LDS church to give an infant a blessing within a few months of birth
to formally pronounce upon them their name as well as bless them with health, strength, faith
and other virtues that will be a guide to them throughout their lives. the blessing is typically performed by the infant's
father or otherwise another man who holds the melchizedek priesthood.
additional members of the melchizedek priesthood can also stand in and participate
in the blessing. these are typically members of the extended family or close friends.

darek has performed the baby blessings for all three of our children.
it is always a very tender and precious experience. on each occasion darek has asked me the night before if i had any particular impressions or requests that should be included in the blessings and all three times i took some time to ponder on each of my children and identify a particular quality i think they possess and/or want them to exhibit throughout their lives. with atticus is was kindness to the less fortunate and with beckett is was being a peacemaker. when darek asked me about kennedy i knew right away that this girl is going to be an influence for good throughout her life. other people will want to lead better lives because of the example she sets. darek performed the blessing beautifully. it was an incredibly spiritual experience and i feel so grateful and so humbled that this precious soul has joined our family.

Photobucket

the blessing was done during sacrament meeting and
like i said before, darek performed the blessing but also standing in the circle participating were
both of our dads ted roper and brian mccoy, my brother brandon, darek's brothers brandon, jason and garlan, our brother-in-law rob, darek's cousin david and the two counselors of our bishopric. it was so special to have everyone participating and we're so grateful so many family members were able to come.

our little family
Photobucket

us and our parents
we wanted to get a whole group photo but that totaled over 40 people
most of which were younger than 15 - and running all over the place - so that didn't happen
and as it was, atticus was not happy about being in this photo as you can see

~the naming fiasco~
so obviously in order to give kennedy her blessing we had to choose a name for her which took us a month to do.
and to be honest if we hadn't set the date for K's blessing that weekend i'm worried she'd still currently be nameless.
we went through 100s of names and seriously considered at least 50 of them. before we knew atticus was a boy, and we were so sure he was a girl, we had chosen the name sasha pearl for her/him. however for some reason when we learned kennedy was a girl sasha just didn't feel like her name. darek's original favorite girl names were savannah and samantha, both of which i like but again just didn't feel were her name. for months cosette was the forerunner (which many of you know since so many of you were rooting for it) and when she was first born we thought she looked very cosette-cosi-coco-esque so we thought that was the winner. but then for some reason by the time we left the hospital i just couldn't commit to cosette on the birth certificate. and honestly, by that point i just wanted to name her cosette so i could call her coco and i figured we shouldn't chose a name based on it's nickname, but could we really just name her coco? i could. darek couldn't. all my favorites were really cute but some were borderline crazy and i couldn't get darek to approve: willow, clover, clementine, juniper, azelea, hazel, velvet, lavender, pemberly, pepper, poppy etc. etc. i could go on...finally one day darek came up with kennedy and loved it immediately. he was SURE it was her name. i, on the other hand, not so sure. again, it was a name i liked but just didn't seem to be it. finally darek listed his top three: kennedy, mckinley and kensington and told me to choose. with only 24 hours left i listed my top three: channing, cheyenne and cassidy. we both liked each others' names but neither of us were convinced! so finally, on the way to church i said to darek, "it's between kennedy and channing. when you get up to bless her, you choose."
and we all know the ending of that story...
~~~
i'm still adjusting...
moving on
beckett spent most of the weekend melting hearts
and just being cute in general
beck and uncle garlan
all the little mccoy cousins
i stole most of the pictures of the weekend from my sisters-in-law
(thank you amanda and brooke!) because i officially excused myself from photo duty
since things were kind of hectic. but sadly, as a result i didn't really get any pictures of my family :(
Photobucket
a little more GQ of beck
~keaton and carter's baptisms~
we purposely combined the weekend with our nephews' baptisms so the mccoy family
could come to both events on the same weekend. the twins keaton and carter were baptized
the day before kennedy's blessing. it was so sweet and tender. each of their siblings participated
in the program by either singing or giving talks. i loved every second of it. we are so blessed
to live near brandon and cori's family. i'm so grateful my kids (and us) have them as examples.
how cute are they?
all dressed in white for their baptism
Photobucket
jason and brooke's family got to LV a day late due to a little stomach bug on friday
but luckily they pulled in just in time to catch the end of the program and jason
was able to stand in on keaton and carter's confirmations.
we had everyone over sunday afternoon for lunch and hanging out
Photobucket
the traditional mccoy family bingo tournament
it wouldn't have been a proper mccoy family event without one
Photobucket
there was also all manner of basketball tournament madness going on in my living room all weekend long
again, a mccoy family even would not be complete without some serious basketball competition
Photobucket
darek's parents had a surprise for all the kids
they compiled their entire married lives worth of family slides onto a set of 15 DVDS
and gave a set to each family. isn't that awesome? we watched a couple of the DVDs and died laughing
at all the old school pictures. what a great gift! and you can imagine the mccoy kids' funny comments on all the photos.
watching the DVDs
Photobucket
darek's parents are headed out on a 2 year LDS mission in argentina next month
we'll miss them but love that they will have this awesome experience
and we're grateful we got to see them before they leave
grandma mccoy spent as much time as possible holding kennedy
she'll be a big girl (and probably have a new baby sibling) the next time she gets to hold her
Photobucket
kennedy got lots of loves and snuggles all weekend long
kisses from beckett (he seriously worships her!)
Photobucket
cori's mom, susan, gave jan a run for her money on kennedy-holding time
i love this picture and i love this lady. she's like another grandma to my kids!
Photobucket
and sweet cannon snugglin my girl
again, so handsome right?
Photobucket
darek's cousin amy taking a turn
Photobucket
we lucked out and david, jessica and amy just happen to be in town for the new year
so we recruited them to the all the family events as well
Photobucket
little girls, little girls, little girls
Photobucket
and more babies
Photobucket
i'm sure it's no surprise that there was much food consumption all weekend long
Photobucket
and i'm sure that you're even less surprised that beck consumed much of the food all weekend
he even recruited helpers to pour the food directly into him mouth
Photobucket
more than once
Photobucket
these pretty ladies are the oldest mccoy cousins
and such good examples for all the littlies born after them
Photobucket
iphones and ipads just floated from child to child all weekend
brandon and cori hosted the mccoys at their house for new year and we had the ropers at our house
again, i didn't take many photos and the lighting was terrible but you get the jist
basically brandon all excited about shooting a confetti gun, because you know, he's a gun guy
and the kids not liking them because they are too loud
notice the four year olds covering their ears
Photobucket
celebrating the new year
(at like 7 pm - bedtime for the kids!)
instead of blogging...
life has been a little chaotic lately, to say the least, and as before mentioned the blog has suffered.
it's easiest to blog when my kids are sleeping but that down time has become so precious
that i find this old bliggity blog has taken a back seat to more important activities such as
1) napping while my kids naps (when i can get them all to nap at the same time, that is)
and 2) watching Mad Men on netflix with darek after the kids are in bed.
we're addicted
but let the record show that this series contains not only the most nauseating sexism/racism/bigotry known to mankind
but also plenty of nookie that we have to fast forward, so don't go watching it, thinking
"this must be so great because amberli says it's so great" only to be horribly offended
that i've recommended something horribly offensive...
because i've warned you.
nookie. fast forward.
and 3) since the birth of the iphone in the mccoy household
i've been instagraming and FBing left and right which
sort of takes blogging's place sometimes.
moving on
the point is that i've been doing these veg out activities, as well as cooking, cleaning and dealing with the general mayhem of child rearing instead of blogging - but i want to keep a record of the daily goings-on through out all the mayhem, so let's get this puppy back on track.
first i want to rewind to 2011 and knock out a few decemeber events.
please forgive the poor quality snap shots...
when i was a kid i loved painting little ceramic doodads, especially christmas ornaments and houses/buildings for a little christmas village. these items got put into storage when my parents moved away from laguna hills (a sad, sad day in the history of the roper family) seven years ago. last summer i got my boxes that had been stored at my siblings' houses in utah and found my little christmas village as well as many little ceramics doodads that i had never painted in the boxes. one day in december, in the midst of the toddler mayhem that makes up my daily life, i was inspired to pull out these old crafties and let the boys go to town. they painted the city hall for the little christmas village and i love how it turned out.
painting, painting, painting
Photobucket
i let them do it however they wanted and it's my favorite!
i'm going to have the kids paint one each year to add to our little village
a new little christmas tradition
Photobucket
we also did a few christmas ornaments
and blue noses as well
Photobucket
although beck opted for a rather flattering green nose
Photobucket
the finished product
presenting the newly painted city hall
Photobucket
it fits right in
Photobucket
we also had a little field trip mid-decemeber, our first real outing after kennedy arrived.
when she was only 12 days old we joined up with some friends for a little tour at panera bread.
it was so cute. they totally take the kids through their whole back shop work space and show them
everything that goes into making their yummy food.
Photobucket
the kids were instructed to hold hands with a buddy
to keep them from running too far away, which in the case of my boys was wise
atticus and best little buddy grayson
Photobucket
panera also provided little treats and snacks for the kids
Photobucket
naturally my kids loved the juice boxes the most
Photobucket
oh beck - i heart that little face of yours!
Photobucket
they also got to decorate gingerbread cookies
which was a messy and delicious affair
Photobucket
and their final creations
yum
Photobucket
alrighty - i'm feeling good about this whole get-caught-up-on-the-blog business
let the good times roll!
