one.week.old
.
time is flying as it always does when kids grow so quickly
i'm enjoying every minute of his tininess while it lasts
because it's going fast and he's changing everyday
.
the little guy graduated into size 1 diapers today
to celebrate his one week birthday
good job little guy
.
.
the first week has gone surprisingly well. the first couple nights were tiring but now he's consistently eating every three hours so i'm getting sleep in about 2 hour stretches, which honestly might be better than how i was sleeping the last while of my pregnancy. last night i even got to go to the gym - don't be impressed, i was on the elliptical for like a minute and then in the sauna and heavenly hot shower the rest of the time. it felt so nice. today i saw my chiropractor and tomorrow i'm headed to yoga if my aches and pains are up for it so i can happily say i'm on the mend! darek is still home for another two weeks of paternity leave so that's pretty great.
so for now we're hanging in there! woo hoo!
.
we love you sweet beckett
we already can't picture our family without you

roper genes vs. mccoy genes
...
people keep asking if the boys look alike...honestly i can't totally tell. when atticus was born it was so obvious that he was darek's son no one would ever dare challenge my fidelity. in the first few moments of beckett's life i felt a faint glimmer of hope that perhaps this child i had lovingly housed in my womb for 39 weeks may actually have some kind of physical resemblance to me. my mom felt the same glimmer of hope when she saw beck's first few pictures but alas upon closer examination perhaps all he inherited from me was my chubby face. what do you think?
...

i don't have a newborn picture of darek so it may just remain a mystery for now, but i have a sneaking suspiscion that as time goes on the mccoy genes will rise victorious once again. i think this officially makes me a mccoy baby incubator.

i checked through newborn pictures of atticus to make some comparisons. i don't know how well the pictures show it but when i see beck sleeping he looks a lot like his big brother. to be fair to atticus i had to look at pics of him a few weeks old as he came home from the hospital a measily 7 lbs, more than a pound and a half less than what his brother weighs at the same age.

happily both boys are equally adept in creating the classic newborn old man face, although i haven't caught a great one of beck's on camera yet. darek kindly refers to this face as the "benjamin button" face...

.the.big.boy.
...
i realize that none of you have time to spend memorizing my son's stats - so allow me to remind you
...
born: 8 lbs. 6 oz.
hospital discharge: 8 lbs. 3 oz
THREE days later: 8 lbs. TWELVE oz!!!
that's a NINE oz weight gain in three days!!!
no wonder there is so little sleep to be had these days
...
.
well, at least so little sleep to be had on our part. this guy is champion sleeper...in the daytime. and really i can't complain too much about the nights either, things are improving everyday.

so you know how my husband is one of those real nice guys?
...
well one of the real nice things he does for me is bring home random gifts, surprises, treats, etc.
he gets that from his mom and i really love it. this is what he brought home yesterday from target.
.
.
have you read it?
.
if you're a fan of twilight you've got to check this out. it's a spoof/parody on the series.
i had to literally stop reading it while i was nursing beckett since my just-had-a-baby, bowl-full-of-jelly, like-unto-a-waterbed belly jiggled him from too much laughing. i laughed that hard. maybe shed a tear or two. but it's definitely super random and very slap-stick so it may not be your cup of tea. anyway - just a suggestion...
.
thanks for the laughs husband!

the big brother
{sorry for the blurry images, just had to catch the moment}
.
well well, here we are 24 hours home from the hospital and i can say that at least so far i'm relieved by atticus' reaction. he asked the hold the babe last night and was extra soft and gentle just like we practiced. he runs around saying, "baby! baby!" and makes sure i'm always aware of where the baby is. again, i realize things will be challenging but i'm just enjoying this one day at a time.
.
pointing to his brother to make sure i see him
and what's cuter than a toddler kiss to his newborn brother?
so i'm not going to lie - the first newborn night was rough. just basically tag teamed with darek all night to keep the babe happy. however, the first full day at home was great. although atticus pulled a fast one on us and got up extra early this morning he more than made up for it by taking a TWO hour nap this morning (hasn't morning napped for months) in a addition to his normal THREE hour nap this afternoon. during both naps the little babe slept as well which gave us some great "first newborn night" recovery time so at this current moment we're all happy and surviving - again just taking it a day at a time. plus the little babe took an additional long nap while atticus was up so we had lots of good one-on-one time. it was great. *sigh*
.
and just a confession because people have been wondering how i've had time to blog...two words: Sitz Bath! embarrassing to admit, yes. but admit, i shall, nonetheless. all you non-parents are thinking to yourself, "what's a Sitz bath?" well, i'll let you discover that joy for yourself when the time comes. i remember thinking the Sitz bath was kind of a pain when i was recovering from atticus but this time it seriously feels like a day spa. "hey darek, you take the kids. i've got to take a Sitz bath." that's how it goes...
.
thanks for all the well wishes, calls, e-mails and such. i'll try to get caught up with you soon!

~ introducing ~
beckett halo mccoy

...
.born.february.nineteenth.
.weighing.eight.pounds.six.ounces.
.twenty.and.one.half inches.long.
...
...
we got home from the hospital today and are so glad to be together as a little family. i'm taking it as a good sign that atticus loved the gifts that beckett "brought" him and even offered his new little brother his football to play with when we got home. i'll keep my fingers crossed that this kindness continues, although i'll also be realistic and expect some challenges.
...
so last thursday i had contractions all afternoon but when they petered out by 8:30 i decided i'd "get a good night's rest" and go to bed early. yeah, right - as if that' s happened since the day i concieved. by 9:30 the contractions were back on and much stronger. poor darek got home from playing basketball just before midnight, hoping to head to bed, only to have pregnant wife pacing the apartment with heavy contractions. at 1:20 exactly i had a contraction that convinced me that unless i wanted to have this baby at home we needed to head to the hospital asap! it was fun to speed through red lights on a totally abandoned jamaica way (usually full of traffic). when we got to the hospital i was so so happy to find out that i was dialated to a SEVEN! woo hoo! i knew all that hard work contracting wouldn't go to waste. so after the miracle epidural was in (heaven!) and darek and i snoozed for a bit, beckett arrived after 20 minutes of pushing - what can i say? i'm built like my mom and my babies come fast! it was love at first sight! darek brought atticus to the hosptial a few times to hang out and i was so happy to have all my boys together. i won't lie though - i'm still managing this emotional adjustment to having another baby and all the feelings that come with trying to imagine balancing time between kids, etc. i'd love your advice.
...
but i've also got t say
i'm loving having a newborn in my life again
it's so good for my soul!
...
so after a hospital stay that was so significantly more pleasant that the last one (really, it was so much easier the second time around! PHEW!) we're home and so far surviving. i'm already recovering more quickly than the first time as well which is so nice.
...
and because i know many of you are wondering
yes, it's true that beckett seems to be (and hopefully is) an "angel baby"
and my delivery (read: epidural) was heavenly
but those factors were not the inspiration of his middle name
...
HALO
was my grandpa's name
...
atticus' middle name wesley is my other grandpa's name
as well as one of darek's great+ grandpa's name
and his brother brandon's middle name
so we continued with the middle name/family name theme
...
plus you know we dig unique names, so it works for us
and i especially love the symbolism
...
needless to say ~ more pics to come...

"it hurts when you hit me in the head"
~
i had to tell that to atticus twice today - and it's not even noon yet
the first time i got hit in the head with a book
then i got hit in the head with my eyeliner
we're learning about soft touches around here
~
i hope he picks up on the concept before the birth of his baby brother
~
everytime we talk about "the baby"
i think atticus thinks we're talking about him
he rocks himself in the baby swing
and says, "baby, baby, baby!"
~
oh boy
~
i'm 39 weeks tomorrow and was dialated to a one at my appointment yesterday.
atticus was born at 38 weeks so this is the most pregnant i've ever been.
i had contractions during the night...so i'm keeping my fingers crossed.
i know i can't complain - i've had a great pregnancy and i still have a week until my due date
but at this rate i'm not sure my body is going to stay put together for another week
so we're still hoping it's soon - like this weekend, or this week
or today...

~
i forgot to take a little family pic in our v-day sunday best
including atticus in his darling new polka dot tie from likely's etsy shop
but nevertheless our v-day was magical and complete with all sorts of lovey dovey-ness,
including roses, chocolates, flicks and tater tots (the last being at darek's request of course.)
we hope yours was wonderful too!

today i...
.
found a tennis ball in my garbage disposal
only after turning it on, of course
.
tried to figure out the most productive thing to do to prepare for the baby
then realized it was probably just to hang out with atticus
.
.
had my 38 week appointment - all's well
only some random braxton-hicks to report
.
ate cookie dough
then didn't even bother to cook any dough into actual cookies
.
let atticus play some games at kneebouncers.com
but then couldn't figure out how he managed to rearrange my home page while playing
.
visited a good friend
who i wish i could see more often
.
will be making fajitas for dinner
because friday night is mexican night
.
informed the baby that if he chooses to come early
it's gotta at least be after darek takes me to see THIS tomorrow night
.
what did you do today?

this has never happened before
i realize that it's totally normal for a child to fall asleep on the couch - but not my child.
he's much too much a too-hyper-to-fall-asleep-anywhere-but-my-crib kind of kid,
even since he was an insy, winsy baby.
oh my insy, winsy baby is such a big boy now, it sort of melts my heart.
he did get up way too early this morning and sort of had an emotional morning because of it
so i'm glad he let himself chill out and fall asleep.
and i'm even more glad he let me pick him up and put him in his crib.
such a sweet little soul.
i love you baby boy.

i feel like i have so much to blog about...

because i've been doing so much lately. but in reality about 100% of the things i've been doing lately may possibly be interesting to about 0% of you. you know, things like lots of laundry and cleaning and ordering baby stuff (that's kind of fun...) and disinfecting my house and growing larger and reading baby books (to refreshen my memory, of course) and doc appointments (not dialated at all as of two weeks ago, even with the previous six weeks worth of contractions - sheesh!) and endlessly searching baby names online to no avail and lots of playdates (which has been fun, gotta get them in while we can) and all the fun aching and heart burning and non-sleeping of the final weeks of pregnancy. i really can't complain though - despite the loosened joints and rotound belly because overall i'm having a great pregnancy and am excited for no-name's arrival.
.
so i suppose this will turn into a random tidbit post...
.
i had dinner with a high school friend who will remain un-named at this time for fear he'd prefer not having a staring role on my blog - but i must say it was FUN! and i chatted his ear off. came to boston with two ears...left with one...won't be returning anytime soon.
.
we finally saw avatar - 3d, IMAX, bought tickets weeks in advance - sort of the makings of a sci-fi nerd but it was good. (although for the record, i'm happily not a member of the sci-fi fan club.) and loooong. just ask JH as she slept through half the fighting scene, but since the fighting scene was half of the 2:40 long movie, she didn't miss much. incidentally our IMAX seats were equipped with vibration so every loud bang shook me up. i thought i'd go into labor. no such luck. .

i also played the role of third wheel on a date with the coxes last weekend to see dear john. i think i loved it. and i'm for that it was better than the book. darek was happy to miss that chikity flickity but i think he'll secretly like it when i get around to forcing him to watch it.
.
we're supposed to be getting buried by 12-15 inches of snow right now. so far we've gotten a touch of drizzle. these are the times i'm grateful for lying weather reporters. my heart goes out to all my fellow east coasters down south though that are truely getting buried, although i gotta admit i don't feel too bad since boston usually gets the worst of it and i think we deserve a break.
.
i decided upon and ordered THIS diaper bag for all my upcoming diaper bagging needs. looks a little busy but isn't so much in real live life, only fake internet life.
.
i activated my 24 visits for $24 pass to healthworks last night. all i can say is HEAVEN! this is for sure the four seasons of all women's gyms. it's so pretty. and sparkly. and clean. and non-smelly. with a huge whirl pool spa and steam rooms and saunas and fancy showers equipped with fancy shampoos and conditioners and soaps, etc. etc. towels. lotions. oh yeah and all the workout equipment with individual TV screens and pilates/yoga/cardio/spinning/kickboxing studios. i wish i could live there. i think i lost ten lbs. just walking through the door.
.
hmmm, perhaps that will conclude my ramblings for now as my babe awakens from his nap and beckons. i hope you are all well and happy and thinking of baby names to send my way...

do you recognize this cute family?

i've always known that K. Wangchung had some serious crafting, creating, decorating, organizing, party-planning, baking/cooking skills but until last weekend i was oblivious to her mad skills of illustration! look at that detail - the sonic's shirt, the flip flops, the boys' mohawks and me sans baby weight - i like it!

some of my girlie friends took me to dinner last weekend to celebrate the pending arrival of beckett/kingston/still un-named baby boy. it was so great to hang out with them and chat and enjoy the remaining time that i have when it's still really easy to take this baby out with me, since that changes quickly post-birth. these sweet ladies all generously pitched in also to my "ergo fund" so when little man arrives hopefully it won't be too tough to still take him along on our social outings. thanks ladies, for everything! it was really great!
and for the purposes of documentation - the 36 weeks belly last weekend

have you heard of groupon? a friend of mine sent me a link to sign up. they send daily deals to your e-mail and some of the deals are serious steals! today's is 24 visits to healthworks which is a fantastic all women's gym with really great classes. the 24 visits need to be used before April 19. i bought it even though i'll be having a baby sometime before then and will be out of commission for a few weeks because it's such a screamin deal and i couldn't pass it up for the weeks that i would be able to go!
